Welcome!

Dear Cadet:

Thank you for your interest in Advanced Training Command New England. We are the home of Petty Officer Leadership Academy (POLA) Class XVI and Emergency Medicine Seminar (EMS) Class VI. These trainings will be held from December 26, 2017 to January 1, 2018, at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island.

Please navigate this site using the menu bar on the left. You will find important information about both POLA and EMS, application instructions, and contact information should you have questions. Just as I respect your time, I ask you to respect mine: do not send me incomplete packages, do not fail to get all required signatures on your paperwork, etc. And while I welcome your questions on how to do something properly, do not ask questions out of sheer laziness. Please read the site and search hard for the answer to your question before you ask.

There are several steps you must perform in order to obtain a seat at this year’s training—each step is described in detail on this site. Because all student billets are first-come, first-served, the sooner you complete these steps, the better your chances are of securing a spot in this highly competitive training.

Cadets, as a young adult and an aspiring leader, it is your responsibility to take charge of your own USNSCC career. If you rely on your parents to do everything for you (e.g., iron your clothes, wake you up for school, send your emails for you), you will neither succeed at this training nor will you be a successful leader in your home unit or elsewhere. So, I charge you to demonstrate maturity, independence, and self-reliance during this application process and ensuring that it is done properly.

Parents, I am absolutely welcoming of your questions during this process. Please feel free to email me. My experienced staff and I welcome the opportunity to work with and mentor your children during this training. And please know that your child's safety, health, and well-being are our very top priority and override all other goals of this training.

Good luck. I look forward to seeing you in Newport this winter.
